ASSESSMENT OF THE CLINICAL EFFICACY AND SAFETY PROFILE OF AN UNDER-EYE CREAM FORMULATION CONTAINING LANACHRYS™ 2B PF, ALDAVINE™5X, AND TYROSTAT™-09 IN HEALTHY ADULT SUBJECTS

Authors: Rushabh Dharamshi, Poorna Pai, Kartiki Jadhav, Priyanka Sharma*

One of the primary locations wherein visible symptoms and symptoms of ageing start to emerge is across the eyes. Dark circles below the lower eyelids are an issue which has numerous reasons like aging, genetics, loss of sleep, stress, vessel fragility and poor circulation under eyes. There are an extensive variety of processes and products that could successfully deal with the pores and skin around the eyes. The aim of clinical research was to check the efficacy of an under-eye cream having a combination of 3 actives LANACHRYS™ 2B PF, ALDAVINE™ 5X, AND TYROSTAT™-09 from Lucas Meyer Cosmetics. 36 female subjects were selected and asked to apply Under eye cream around the eye area once a day for 56 days. Safety and efficacy were assessed by the dermatologist according to the Bazin's atlas. Melanin content of the skin was measured by a Mexameter. The cream was well appreciated for making under eye skin supple, for reducing under eye dark circles, wrinkles & fine lines around the eye. In 56 days, there was a reduction in melanin content by 22.9%, under eye dark circles by 13.8%, intensity of crow’s feet wrinkles reduced by 10.2%. To conclude, dermatological evaluation for efficacy shows significant reduction in wrinkles & fine lines and reduction in under eye dark circles after 56 days of application of the under-eye cream containing LANACHRYS™ 2B PF, ALDAVINE™ 5X, AND TYROSTAT™-09.

TRANSMESOCOLIC INTERNAL HERNIATION PRESENTING AS SMALL BOWEL OBSTRUCTION IN A VIRGIN-ABDOMEN: A DIAGNOSTIC CHALLENGE

Authors: Turgavarathan Letchumanan, Fatin N. R., Tang C. C., Wan Zainira Wan Zain*

Background: Transmesocolic hernias are a rare subtype of internal hernia and an uncommon cause of small bowel obstruction. Preoperative diagnosis remains challenging because of their nonspecific clinical and radiological presentation, particularly in surgery-naïve patients. Delayed recognition may result in bowel strangulation, ischemia, and significant mortality. We report a case of transmesocolic internal hernia presenting as acute intestinal obstruction in a patient without previous abdominal surgery. Case Presentation: A middle-aged gentleman presented with acute history which suggests intestinal obstruction. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) demonstrated dilated small bowel loops with twisting of the mesentery. An emergency exploratory laparotomy was performed. Intraoperatively, small bowel had herniated through a defect in the transverse mesocolon into the lesser sac. The herniated bowel loops appeared congested but remained viable. The postoperative recovery was uneventful, and the patient was discharged well. Conclusion: Transmesocolic hernia is a rare but important differential diagnosis in surgery-naive patients presenting with small bowel obstruction. Due to the difficulty in establishing a preoperative diagnosis, a high index of suspicion and prompt surgical intervention are essential to prevent bowel ischemia and improve patient outcomes.

WILD ASPARAGUS SPECIES OF ISRAEL AND PALESTINE – A MINIREVIEW

Authors: Abdullatif Azab*

Compared with Europe, the communities of Israel and Palestine (the reviewed region, RR) did not consume WILD species of Asparagus and hardly grew domesticated species. This fact reflects also on lack of clear reported ethnomedicinal and ethnobotanical uses. Contrary to this, modern research found notable interest in these plants, with clear differences between published literature about each one. In this minireview article, the published ethnomedicine, ethnobotany, along with findings of modern studies about these plants will be presented. Among the medicinal activities-properties, some were largely published (anticancer) while others were hardly reported or not at all. The chemical compositions of these plants were also partially reported, and among the isolated natural products, saponins were some of the earliest.

EVALUATION OF ANTI-UROLITHIATIC POTENTIAL OF PONGAMIA PINNATA (L.) LEAF EXTRACTION: AN IN VITRO STUDY

Authors: Sinchana R., Anu A. M., Anjali G. V., Sharath S.*, Sudhakar B. M., Vikash B. P.

Urolithiasis, commonly known as kidney stone disease, is a prevalent urinary tract disorder characterized by the formation and accumulation of mineral crystals within the urinary system. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the anti-urolithiatic potential of Pongamia pinnata (L.) leaves using an in vitro model. The leaves were subjected to maceration extraction using ethanol, and the obtained extract was evaluated for its phytochemical constituents. Preliminary phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, glycosides, phytosterols and triterpenoids, saponins, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, carbohydrates, proteins and amino acids, and fixed oils and fats. For the evaluation of anti-urolithiatic activity, experimental calcium oxalate stones were prepared by homogeneous precipitation. The dissolution potential of the plant extract was assessed using a semi-permeable egg membrane model, followed by titrimetric estimation of the remaining calcium oxalate using potassium permanganate. The phytochemical constituents present in the extract may contribute to its potential Urolithiatic activity. The findings of this study suggest that Pongamia pinnata leaf extract possesses promising anti-urolithiatic potential and may serve as a basis for further investigation into its role in the prevention and management of urinary stone formation.

EARTH, WORLD AND UNIVERSE: THREE MUSKETEERS OF COSMOS

Authors: *Prof. Dr. Dhrubo Jyoti Sen

The ultimate single-word term that encompasses all of these nested scales—from our home planet to the totality of existence—is the cosmos. While "earth" names our specific rocky globe, "world" often includes human society and life upon it, and "universe" describes all physical matter and space, cosmos uniquely denotes the entire system as an orderly, harmonious, and unified whole. The Earth is an oblate spheroid (and more precisely a lumpy geoid), while the observable universe has a nearly flat geometry on a large scale. Earth refers specifically to our physical planet, while the World encompasses the planet along with human society, culture, and life. Earth is the third planet from the Sun and the only astronomical object known to harbour life. This is made possible by Earth being an ocean world, the only one in the Solar System sustaining liquid surface water. Almost all of Earth's water is contained in its ocean, which covers 70.8% of Earth's crust.
